Start from activity and position

General lighting, task lighting and ambient lighting do different work. Mark where reading, desk work, exercise or screen viewing will happen. Note ceiling obstructions and reflective surfaces. A single grid of downlights may not suit every activity, but fixture location and electrical design need review by the qualified installer.

Plan controls with the room uses

Consider which lights should operate together, how someone enters or leaves the room and whether dimming is appropriate for selected fixtures. Keep emergency, stair and access questions for the contractor and authority. The tool lists planning zones; it does not assign wiring, load capacity or code compliance.

What the output means

Output is a set of activity and control questions, not an electrical specification.

Your next steps

  • Mark the task locations.
  • Note screens and reflective finishes.
  • Discuss control groups.
  • Ask the installer to confirm compatibility.
