Check conditions before the product

Manufacturer instructions and the actual slab conditions should guide suitability. Water-resistant surface claims do not resolve water entry, moisture vapor, substrate preparation or a failed installation system. Ask which tests and preparation the selected product requires, then compare complete installed systems rather than a sample alone.

Make the tradeoff visible

Carpet can feel softer, tile can be easier to clean and resilient flooring can offer a different balance of comfort and maintenance. Those general categories contain many products. Keep acoustics, repair access, underlayment, transitions and long-term care in the discussion. The tool presents questions to ask; it does not choose a winner.

What the output means

The comparison is qualitative and does not replace product instructions, testing or a contractor’s scope.

Your next steps
